Meet Our Board
As a self-owned, non-profit facility, there is no corporate agenda cutting corners for budgeting purposes or government intervention dictating how things run for something other than the person.
We are run by locals like you, with a board of directors who understand the need and the guardianship and ensure revenue goes back to the facility, operations, our staff, and ultimately, to the benefit of our residents and patients.
Administrator

I started my career in healthcare in 2005 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation, where I worked in accounts payable and performed various data entry tasks. I quickly moved up to Business Office Manager (BOM) where I was responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, human resources, and payroll.
Following my time at Oakview, I worked for various companies that specialize in long-term care, including Genesis Healthcare. During that time, I worked with the Business Office Mangers across eighteen communities to improve revenue cycle management. I received my administrator’s license (LNHA) in 2017 and accepted my first administrator job working for Wells Health Systems out of Mayfield, KY.
I have worked with several local advocacy groups and non-profit agencies, such as the Rotary Club, Purchase Area Mental Health and Aging Coalition (PAMHAC), and West Kentucky Healthcare Coalition. I have also volunteered to provide educational presentations with local groups such as senior citizens centers and the Alzheimer’s Association.
I hold an Associate of Science (emphasis in accounting), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and Master of Healthcare Administration (Executive) degrees.
Originally from Southern Illinois, I have spent most of my adult life in the Reidland area, minus a short stint in Alaska. I am the youngest of 6 brothers and am married to Candice (Melton) Long, a Marshall County native. I have two kids, ages 17 and 22; Candice also has two kids, ages 9 and 18. When not working, I enjoy spending time out on the lake fishing and “glamping” with my family at a local campground on Kentucky Lake.
I am extremely proud and honored to be a part of continuing the tradition of excellent care at Calvert City Nursing & Rehab.
President
Kem Johnson Cothran is the current president of the board of directors for Calvert City Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Before being named president in January of 2022, Kem served as a board member for a year and as a family member of a resident for five years. She is a retired teacher, principal, and instructional supervisor working part-time for Murray State College of Education and for the Mayfield Independent School District. Her most important job now is being a Bee Bee to her grands!
“My passion for working with a nonprofit nursing home stems from the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives by advocating for the most vulnerable populations, to help ensure they receive the care and attention they deserve in a high quality facility. Our board works as a team to create a sense of community, continuously learn, grow and fulfill a greater purpose. Seeing the positive effect the actions of the board can have on the well-being of the residences and the peace of mind for family and caregivers lets me know that my work contributes to a greater cause. Helping to impact the lives of others gives me a sense of fulfillment and purpose.”
Vice President
Being a registered nurse for 42 years, I have been very passionate about meeting the needs of patients in hospitals and residents in nursing homes. I have been instrumental in starting the health careers program at Marshall County High School in 1991 and taught that program till 2012 offering the nurse aid certification for over 300 students in my career. Many of these nurse aids are helping residents in local health care facilities and patients in local hospitals and offices. Also since I had an aunt who was a resident at this facility and saw their amazing care for 2 years, I felt led to offer my services to this particular facility. I have been on several boards in the community and our local school system.

Calvert City Nursing & Rehab has meant so much to my and my husband’s families in caring for family members. The love and devotion that they received there, meant so much. I hope that I can be a small part in helping to keep the facility a dynamic and viable part of the community to provide for future generations in their time of need.
Secretary
Calvert City has been my home for most of my life. I am the youngest of seven children of Doc and Mary Colburn and had a wonderful small-town childhood of riding bikes all over town and playing outside until dark (or after!). After graduating from the newly consolidated Marshall County High School, I attended WKU to pursue some type of career in the field of Biology- I never expected to move back to Calvert City. After working in research for a few years, I was drawn back to the area to help open a veterinary clinic and to raise two children in the same environment that I had experienced. It was good to be home, and it is here that I expect to stay. I was offered the opportunity to serve on the board of Calvert City Nursing and Rehab and readily agreed. CCNR is near and dear to my heart- it has been an important part of our family as my father was one of the local physicians whose vision included a facility such as this to serve the community. I am honored to be associated with CCNR.
Board Member
I was born and raised in Calvert City and graduated from North Marshall High School I received a BS in English and an MS degree in Guidance and Counseling from Murray State. After that I spent 28 years in the Marshall County school system as an English teacher and the final 20 years as a counselor at Marshall County High School.
After my retirement, I was employed as the Director of Development at West Kentucky Community and Technical College for 16 years.
Service to others has always been an important part of my life. From counseling high school students, to raising needed funds for new curriculum, services and buildings at the college, to serving on this board has brought me great deal of satisfaction. Calvert City Nursing and Rehab has served many members of my family through the 50 years of its existence . Working with this board gives me the opportunity to give back to the Center in some small way.

Board Member
Calvert City is the place I have always called home. A place where I feel comfortable, loved, and protected. Being raised in a small town creates a sense of community and lifetime friendships. I was blessed with wonderful parents, Richard and Jane Cocke, who embraced the sense of community and collective values of Calvert City. My childhood was enriched by so many people, not just in Calvert City, but the surrounding communities of Marshall County. After graduating from high school in 1979, I attended and graduated from Murray State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. I then pursued and received a law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1986. A move to the Washington, DC, area followed law school, where I worked on Capitol Hill for the House Banking Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee from 1986 to 1990. For me, the phrase “there’s no place like home” was true, as I was blessed to return to Calvert City with my husband, Joe, and raise our children here. In addition, returning home allowed me the wonderful opportunity to be involved with my parents as they aged.
As children, our parents ensure we are loved and cared for to the highest degree. As an adult, when the tables turn, and it becomes the children’s time to be the caretaker of our beloved family members, choosing a facility to provide that care is a critical decision. When my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Calvert City Nursing & Rehab welcomed my mother with open arms. Throughout her 5+ year stay, the staff became a second family, rallying around my mom and our entire family with love and support. Even in sad circumstances, countless moments of joy were found in this place. My mom sitting down at the piano playing a tune, my own daughters putting on performances for residents, and the sweet greetings of familiar faces on my daily visits. When I was asked to serve on the board for CCNR, I gladly accepted the opportunity to give back to the facility that has given me so much. I am eager to see what the future holds under this administration and eternally grateful for those who provide personalized, skilled care to the residents who now call this wonderful center home—a place where they feel comfortable, loved, and protected.
